ex video-surveillance cop becoming summer movie

To further expand my exploration of mass surveillance and the “spreadsheetization” of the world, I spent the summer of 2023 working for the French police in the video surveillance department. During these months in a video surveillance bunker, where solitude was a constant companion, I immersed myself in reading, writing, drawing, photography, and filming. Currently, I am developing and interconnecting these works into a book and a series of performances. In this presentation, I share some images and pages from my notebook.

The focus centers on the cyclical nature of municipal police work (the city’s police, not the national force) and the implications of adopting the role of a police officer while observing the world through surveillance cameras. All of this unfolds against the backdrop of sunrises in a prosperous seaside town.

A work-in-progress film, shot on a 360-degree camera during the previous summer with the financial support of HEAR. Inspired by Agnès Varda’s Cléo de 5 à 7
